Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
